Most of us have been the “new student,” at one time or another. Being in a new and unfamiliar place like this can be very stressful. But sometimes all it takes is a kind word and a smile to turn a new student’s day from scary and lonely to exciting and fun. San Ildefonso Day School Warriors should always be on the lookout for new students. It should be a priority to make every new student feel welcome to our special learning environment.

Here are the Top 5 Ways to Welcome New Classmates:

  1. Invite a new student to join you in an extracurricular activity like a sports team or an academic club. It’s easier to find common interests outside of the classroom.
  2. Take the time to start a conversation with a new student. About anything.
  3. Anticipate common questions and confusion about navigating the campus and offer help understanding a school assignment.
  4. Express your appreciation for a new student’s personal appearance or style, even if it seems strange to you.
  5. Make sure a new student feels welcome and accepted at San Ildefonso Day School, because they never have to fear being themselves.
